I wonder if they're going to make an annoucement soon about introducing faster modems which I'ld like to get my hands on.

My understanding was that the new (Ricochet2) modems will be necessary to get the 128K speeds when the new Ricochet2 network is deployed and that even with old style (i.e. current) modems the users will get 50-100% improvement over their current speeds on the new network. I hadn't heard anywhere before the post on Yahoo that the new modems would give improved speeds on the current Ricochet network. I would not be surprised if the person posting got confused by what Metricom was telling them about the new Ricochet2 service.

I had gotten a reply from Metricom a few weeks ago, when I asked why Ricochet Unwired hadn't been issued in December (I was wondering if that was another casualty of their layoffs). I was told that
"Ricochet Unwired has not been dropped; due to new announcements, the next newsletter should be this month, January 99."

Maybe those announcements are imminent.
