If you sell one April 70 put (contract) for $4...you get $400 and someone can force you to buy their 100 shares for $70 each...the deadline is the third Friday in April...if COST shares are going for anything above $70, no one will force you to buy COST and you walk away with $400...if the share are trading for $65, then you can be sure someone is going to "put" 100 shares of COST to you for $70 each...of course, here also, you keep the $400...You can use it when you buy your shares...
