OT--It's good to see this topic rearranging the bedfellows around here <g>.

Arnie, I have no doubt you are correct about the origin of high crimes. However, with the types and degrees of crimes we see in politics today, the more current definition will probably prevail.

If anyone thinks any president must be beyond reproach and of the highest moral character, then you're asking for a very rare and special person. There is no doubt that people like that exist in our society, but there is no way in he** that they could survive the unfortunate gauntlet candidates must run these days. (Well, maybe a SLIM chance) BTW, how many of the 40 some-odd presidents we've had would fit that bill?

I have been a registered Republican since I was 18 (some 25 years), but this year I made the effort to switch to Independent. And my guess would be that the Republicans are going to see both defections from the party and another hit at the polls. Overnight NBC polls show a 76% (!) approval rating for President Clinton . . .

Oh, and GO TMMI!! <wry grin>
