Dear Fred: Actuallyy cable modems are a lot faster until everyone in the neighborhood gets on and than it is loaded down and the performance drops inversely. Here is wheere sat. has the advantage as it is not sharing the wire. The Smart thing was signing up with Web so that they have many more local access numbers than Direc and as I said b4 a lot better deal. ADSL by the phone company will be the best and it will allow phone and data over the ssame pair. Regional Bells are the ultimate distributors as they go to everyone's home. In time as ASDL improves they will knock the satellites out of the market unless the sat people keep developing new stuff as Echo appears too be doing. Hugjes seems to missing the boat here. JFD JFD
