Hello Shalom,

My friend, I doubt conflict will be an issue between us. You are a brother in Christ and we both stand on Acts 5:29
I welcome your thoughts and I can readily say I agree with them. I think you know I have a biased opinion on the issue and readily admit a somewhat tainted viewpoint having seen the damage incurred upon families and young impressionable people by some cults. It is these peoples right to participate as long as they don't infringe upon the rights of others or harm their own membership from a legal aspect. i.e. assaults, frauds, sexual abuse etc.
Therein lies the difficulty... should law enforcement stay only reactive as in wait for a complaint or proactive as in monitoring activities? Monitoring could infringe upon the rights of the individual. Not doing so could permit serious crimes that may have been preventable. What could have been prevented had there been insight concerning what was about to transpire at Jonestown?
In the same light I would not welcome government interference in my church, but let them come in and hear the gospel and see all of what we do.
I think that a controlling cult would not welcome open scrutiny.

I am thinking of the criminal extreme here but to deal with them creates an obvious danger for the honest groups. I don't pretend to have the answer. I am grateful that God is in control.

In Christ,
John
