Janice and Jeff,
I didn't say impossible, I only said dangerous - if one has a permanent relationship. Relationships are sinusoidal, and if you're on a down cycle your "friend" may start to look pretty attractive. I see biological pressures as the reason for the risks inherent in male/female friendships. Maturity and control are in flux and I don't always know how much control or maturity I will feel in any particular situation. I figured most people felt the same way. You must have been in situations where you've been out of control and done things you normally wouldn't. If you are married, and you do something you normally wouldn't, sometimes your spouse will never forgive you and so its just safer not to get in relationships that might be problematic.

I've been married since I was 19, and my husband and I went through undergrad and grad school while together, so I am basing much of this on my own experiences and the inferences I have drawn from my experiences. You, Janice, have had completely different experiences and come to a totally different conclusion. I respect your opinion but I have to stick by mine that these relationships pose dangers to those in committed relationships.
