The RealPlayer is fairly intelligent and attempts to "buffer" a portion of the stream to prevent these dropouts. In the protocol it is then able to send commands to speed-up or slow-down the streaming to keep the buffer full. It sounds like you are having drop-outs, or Internet delays that are longer than the size of the buffer will cover. I know that there is a setting to determine the buffer size. I use G2 all the time, and it has a default setting (I think) of buffering the entire clip to available memory. I'm not sure if this is only for high-quality clips or for all ... but what you are seeing is the buffer running out, or your computer running out of "horsepower" to play.

If you are using G2, you can bring up a graphical display using the "View->Statistics" menu items ... if the line is always around the 100% mark then you are running out of CPU or memory. If the line keeps falling well below the 100% then you are not getting the stream fast enough ... this is the only test that I know of that might help determine the problem.
