Embbedded systems have Real-Time operating systems (if any operating system at all). Examples of UNIX like real time systems are PSOS,
Microware OS9 and WIND (Wind River Systems)

Basically they are stripped down software environments that enable a programmer to develop the program for an embedded product. (Your microwave has an embedded System.

Given a quick perusal of the Companies background (Operating System Software Emulation) ,, JENE is a small Real Time Operating System
that will compile and execute programs written in JAVA.

A patent on such a concept / product seems to me to be a real stretch.

Anyone could front end any Real Time Operating System to handle JAVA, even code developed entirely in Assembly Language (Effectively no operating system) could be developed to handle a subset of the JAVA command set.

Sorry this isn't very clear ... hope it helps a little
