Tom Michaud: Well there is not always a chart pattern. There was a intraday bear flag. Looking at the DJI 4 Minute Interval Semi-Log Chart with the bottom of the inverted flag pole at 9:46 am EST. One can not use patterns in isolation. Other indicators must be used in tandem. A good conventional mutually supporting indicator is MACDX. I use a highly customized version.
