By the way, it was Roe v. Wade that awoke the sleeping giant of the religious right.
I'm old enough to predate that time. The religious right was stirring due to the changes of Johnson's Great Society programs. I heard many a sermon about the mark of Cain (black skin was the interpretation). It was only with Roe v. Wade that they latched onto a policy with sufficently motivating imagery to mobilize the troops and gain new converts.
