>>>Rogers Media changing and aggressively expanding its Internet offerings
TORONTO, Jan. 21 /CNW/ - Rogers Media Inc. announced today that, at the mutual agreement of both parties, it will be concluding its three-year licence to offer a Yahoo! property in Canada. The licence will revert back to Yahoo Inc. in a transition period over the next month. ''As the exclusive Canadian licencee of Yahoo! Canada, we have acquired considerable experience and unique insight into the dynamics and future evolution of E-commerce and the Canadian Internet market,'' said Brian Segal, Vice President of Rogers Media. ''We have enjoyed a good working relationship with Yahoo and the natural conclusion of our agreement will have no adverse impact on Rogers Media's revenues or profits. ''Rogers Media would like to thank Yahoo for three terrific years of working together.'' Rogers Media continues to aggressively expand and enhance its Internet offerings. The Shopping Channel.com, to be launched in March of this year with a full range of shopping opportunities online, is just one of the new sites planned for the future.
It will join a growing stable of properties, which have helped to make Rogers Media a leading force in the Canadian Internet services market. Properties include: - Quicken.ca (www.quicken.ca), a website in both English and French, devoted exclusively to helping Canadians manage their personal or business finances. - Bid.com (www.bid.com), Canada's preeminent online Internet auction, offering Canadians brand name merchandise direct from manufacturers at below retail prices. Rogers has the exclusive Canadian licence to market Bid.com and is also an investor in Bid.com. - Electric Library Canada (www.elibrary.ca), a subscription-based, flat fee, online research service which is updated daily with a broad spectrum of trusted Canadian and international news, reference and information sources. - @Home Canada, a broadband portal owned by Rogers, Shaw and Cogeco, offers a full suite of audio, video, text and interactive content, along with e-mail and search.
''In conjunction with Maclean Hunter Publishing Ltd., the publishing division of Rogers Media, we will also be aggressively launching new websites. Our Chatelaine site (www.chatelaine.com), which is currently the number one women's site in Canada, will be expanding. Macleans (www.macleans.ca), Canadian Business (www.canbus.com), and Profit (www.profit100.com) sites, are all seeing significant growth opportunities,'' said John Tory, President and CEO of Rogers Media Inc. and Chairman of @Home Canada. On other fronts, Rogers Media will be expanding into emerging online market segments and trade opportunities, including financial services, business-to-business commerce, and online business research. In addition to its narrowband properties, Rogers Media, through its @Home Canada venture, is a leader in broadband access to the Internet. ''When consumers see our new and expanded offerings, they will be very surprised, and very pleased. Along with our partners, we will be offering a vast range of offerings that includes entertainment, shopping, education, financial planning, travel, employment opportunities and many other services,'' Mr. Segal said. Rogers Media Inc., owns Maclean Hunter Publishing Limited and Rogers Broadcasting Limited. Among RMI's media properties are radio stations in most major Canadian markets, well-known consumer magazines such as Maclean's, Chatelaine, Canadian Business, plus a number of trade publications.
