Providian Financial Corp. (PVN) said it expects to achieve 50% earnings-per-share growth in 1999. The company also expects to increase its goal for long-term earnings-per-share growth to at least 25%. A First Call survey of 13 analysts put the company's 1999 net income at $2.99 a share. The company said fourth-quarter net interest income rose to $183.7 million from $103.5 million a year ago. Noninterest income rose to $420.2 million from $187.2 million a year earlier. The financial-services company said its total managed accounts at the end of 1998 rose 71% from year-end 1997 to 8 million, including 1.9 million account relationships established during the latest fourth quarter.
