Hummingbird reports the First Quarter of Fiscal 1999; posts significant revenue increase in Business Intelligence division newswire.ca Sales for the quarter ended December 31, 1998 were $30.6 million, compared to sales of $31.3 million for the quarter ended December 31, 1997.During the quarter, due primarily to investment in Business Intelligence (BI) sales and marketing activities, expenses increased to $19.9 million, an increase of 18 percent from the first quarter of the last year. Net income for the quarter was $5.2 million, compared to $7 million in the first quarter of the last year. Basic and diluted earnings were $0.34, compared to $0.45 and $0.44 respectively in the first quarter of the last year.
