This news just in on the VLAD press wires:

1)Current analyst estimates for Vivus' 1998 Q4 of -.04 will be easily beat. Expect at least a 2 cent profit for the quarter.

2)Partnership deal not likely to be announced on the 28th. It is possible but very unlikely. Vivus still needs more time to cut a "more favorable" deal than what has been offered thus far. Looking to Astra for desired partnership commitments. Astra not easy to negotiate with due to Zeneca merger but soon this should change.

3)CS First Boston geared more towards sale. Vivus board feels long term situation much better if company avoids sale and negotiates partner. CS First Boston not involved in partnering arangements now--that is Leland's job.

4)Vivus board is comfortable that Vivus can do fine if not signing a partner for another 5 months. Cost control along with current sales is enough to maintain profitability until a favorable partnership deal can be signed.

5)Best case scenario is a partner is signed within the next week(possible but unlikely).

6)Worse case scenario is that partner is not signed until end of Q2(also possible but unlikely).

7)IMO domestic partnering deal most likely reached within the next 30 to 60 days.

8)More on gene therapy and incontinence during cc next week.

9)Keep the patience. Do not allow lack of instant gratification to play into the hands of those keeping Vivus stock price depressed.
