These analysts are off base. A split does not get discussed until
there is an IBM Board of Directors meeting, which by
the way, meet each quarter after earnings are out so there is no way
to have a split announced just yet unless there was a special board
meeting. Once the strategy is agreed then it can be announced with
a split date. If you recall a few years back when the last split
happened, Gerstner said to "stay tuned" for a split and dividend
increase. That happened after the 4th quarter earnings came out.
A formal announcement followed with a split date of record in May.
Nothing is off track here. Of course, if you subscribe to the theory
that a ten or two fives are the same it all doesnt matter.
