Perhaps you're right, but then again the desert tribes could compare the skeletal remains to living animals. If they ever happened across a Pteradon skeleton I doubt they would have painstakingly separated the bones from the surrounding rock. In addition to that, it's wingspan is sixty feet, so I'm sure legends about that find would have persisted even to this day. Finally, they would have had to excavate quite a bit just to find one in the first place.

As for the print, I shall have to consult my diaries. I recall it was in southeastern Colorado in a fairly desolate area. Will have to dig into my records, as it was back in the early 70s. But I specifically went to the place because I had read a mention of it in a book.
