I'm an art historian; I specialize in Lombard Renaissance painting and sculpture, but that's not very mainstream, so I also do Leonardo. A little Michelangelo and stuff. Bores me to tears after all this time.
Ah yes, social history too. What I do that's different from many art historians (fair to say what I can do, because I live here where the resources are; it's very time-consuming) is archival work.
Can be interesting, but believe me, I spent about 12 years going to the archive most days, hours with mostly incredibly boring documents dealing with real estate badly scribbled in medieval Latin, and lemme tell ya, I'm sick to death of it.
Needless to say, it doesn't pay very much, either.
