Compaq Presarios are being sold at onsale.com, the new site that is selling things at wholesale prices. They have a list of the top ten selling products at the site and the Compaq Presario 5220 is listed as their #1 seller!
onsale.com
For desktops, the only Compaq line sold right now is the Presario, but it looks as if more CPQ offerings will be made available in the future from the looks of the CPQ 'store' page:
onsale.com
Comparing the offerings with those available at CPQ's web site, the models are not the same. Grabbing the junk from this past Sunday newspaper, it appears this site sells the same models available in stores.
Are the prices that much better? Well, if I wanted a Presario 5204 I could buy a bundled package that includes a 15" monitor and HP printer for $1,079.97 at Staples. Staples sells the computer alone for $799.99 [according to the tiny print in their ad]. Onsale.com sells the PC alone [no bundled packages available] for $745.97 then tacks on $10 as a payment processing fee [2.4% with a minimum of $5 and maximum, $10 per order]. So, _excluding_ the UPS charge, onsale.com's price is $45.02 cheaper than Staples without local sales tax.
Compaq is not the only PC manufacturer whose products are available at onsale.com but of the big-name manufacturers, I see that Gateway and Dell are absent. For a number of reasons their exclusion does not surprise me although I wonder if selling products through onsale.com as well as in stores and direct through the web (at their own site) will give Compaq a marketing advantage.
