Interim housing program cranks out five houses

Ministry of Housing told Cabinet Tuesday that its housing project is
gathering momentum.

According to a report to Cabinet, the interim housing program put in
place in September 1998 with some $3 million has seen construction
commence on 50 houses with another 25 set to start soon.

Attorney General and Minister of Housing Dickie Bradley along with area
representative Ainslie Leslie was scheduled to hand over five houses to
owners in San Ignacio Friday.

The houses were built under the interim housing program which was
implemented pending what the government describes as a massive housing
project scheduled for later this year in new satellite towns. The
proposed satellite towns, for which site analyses were submitted to
Cabinet, include the area along the Burrell Boom-Hattieville corridor and
along mile 25 on the Western Highway. Cabinet then requeste a site
analysis for the La Democracia area.

According to a government press release, the five houses in San Ignacio
were built at a cost of approximately BZE$35,000 each.

Two of the three bedroom houses are located in the Cahal Pech area of San
Igacio and the other three were built on Third street.

Construction of the houses started in late November, last year, and was
completed this month by contractors Ray Foreman, Valentin Torres, Antonio
Aguirrez and Joe Lisbey.
