koreatimes.co.kr Hyundai's RAMBUS DRAM Business Gets Into Stride 01/22(±Ý) 16:07 Hyundai Electronics launched upon the production of RAMBUS DRAM which is expected to be the next generation main memory. The company recently produced the commercial sample of 72MByte Direct RAMBUS DRAM, the smallest one over the world and its module(a circuit which has loaded with several DRAMs) and provided them to its major customers such as Intel, Compaq and Gateway. The high-volume production of this brand-new chip is expected to be available with the 0.22micron(1micron=1/million Mbyte) circuit technology of 64Mbyte SDRAM and 128MByte SDAM on production in the near future. Hyundai explained that it would be highly competitive in price since the capacity per wafer is larger than other RAM by more that 23% with smaller size than other existing products by over 20%. The company plans to start its mass production from the 2nd quarter of this year and produce 4 million units per month in the 2nd half. It expects to produce 1 million 144Mbyte RAMBUS DRAMs per month from the 3rd quarter and achieve $400 million in selling as far as this business. It plans to invest $170 million in establishing the complete product line for it and extend the investment in case of the increase of its market. This chip is able to be built at the superhigh speed computer system instantly since this product meets the strict requirements of Intel perfectly and the process per second is 1.8GB in maximum which is larger than the standard, 1.6GB(13,000 pieces of newspaper) by more that 10%. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
