P friend, I started to listen to it and fell asleep, and it expired, good thing I didn't. Anyway, the first part was interesting, three new clients,RCN,Comcast and Charter. TWX is buying a lot also, they are now 10% of overall sales. They couldn't keep up with the demand for MetroLink DWDM systems for TCOMA,working very, very hard on those systems. Here is probably why they are working so hard. TCI has projected approximately $2.1 billion for remaining cable plant upgrade costs during the period from 1999 through 2000 including approximately $1.0 billion estimated for 1999 and approximately $1.1 billion for 2000. This projection is inclusive of upgrade costs for two-way capability. The revised upgrade plan, said TCI, will result in 75 percent of TCI's cable plant being upgraded to 550-860 MHz by year-end 2000. The plan includes capital to make TCI's broadband plant "telephony ready" by extending stand-by-powering time, reducing node sizes, and implementing additional electronics at the hubs. It does not include the cost of adding communications equipment in the customer's home when a customer signs up for service. Its a long road, and HLIT has a small little tiny bicycle, and its gonna take a heckuva lot of turns to get there. But Tony and the HLIT staff is peddling as damn hard as they can,and they see the light at the end of the tunnel. Tim |
