So our instincts were correct that from Corel's silence on Netwinder we could infer that it was just another expensive flop. Corel Video, Office for Java, jBridge, jSuite, Netwinder: a long line of products that they couldn't get to work or that no one wanted to buy.

Returning to its core software products, Corel is now such a dull company that Cowpland will probably resign to start a new venture. That could be worth a point on the share price. Otherwise I don't see anything doing until after the upgrades are released and we see how they are accepted.

Why don't they use their new Linux notoriety to sell some product that runs on Linux servers? They could buy or license some backup, network management or utility program, port it to Linux (if not already a Linux app), put a pretty face on it and do some hard marketing.

Instead they are porting all their desktop applications to Linux. Guess Corel just is never going to be happy unless the are developing some product that doesn't have a market.
