Earlie from Earlie.

Merrill lowers IBM. Can you imagine? Those dastardly cads. But of course they are increasing their estimated earnings for next year as well. Reasons not provided.

The several polite but critical comments made by members of this thread to our esteemed CNBC visitor of last weekend, may have had impact. CNBC ran a piece that was critical of accounting and reporting and it was well done. It included the fact that the S&P earnings of the last few years would have come in flat if the "one-time-only" and other restructuring charges were factored out. This of course is what the corporate income tax receipts have been saying for quite some time as well. Kudos to the MB chorus if that CNBC piece resulted from last week-end's comments and a "well-done" to Ted if it resulted from impetus at his end.

I'm probably on the run for the next several days.

Best, Earlie
