I spent 15 years in Calgary big rock is big stuff. In fact, I had a business right next door, was involved in the original taste testing. I'll never forget it yukk.. today I don't drink anything but dark and designer style beers. boy do times change. I live in montreal now, and dark beers are not, I repeat are not as popular here. The big breweries still carry a lot of weight... i do see the potential for market penetration for dark but i gotta wonder if the western beer would hold much mystique here. My neighbour here is mcauslan (mcauslan brewery) who manufactures a dark beer. Nice stuff, but it doesn't seem to take up a lot of shelf space. molson and gang still fill the depenaur's. If I was gonna pick one here I would pick sleemans as the winner. The bottles are sharpe, the image solid. Do they have deeper pockets? This I don't know. Old ed and his team are bound to get bought up sometime soon.
