To All: Well today it was all over the wires, Smith Kline Beecham got FDA approval for their DTaP vaccine. For those who don't know SKB is BIG on PR. With the clout that SKB has with the FDA twas to be expected but it isn't what the SKB press release makes it up to be( this is what I mean by big on PR).THe press release is a smoke screen of efficacy numbers that in this context are about as meaningful as my telling you that I scored 61 on the golf course the other day.Not a word on SAFETY. To get to the root of what really was approved you would have to plow thru at least 20 or 30 pages of a document that represents what they call I think the "Label". This is the very vaccine in which it was disclosed in their Advisory Committee meeting in July of '96 that they experienced extremely severe side effects (extensive swelling of the thigh resulting in hospitalization of a relatively high percentage of those who got fourth and fifth shots. The clinical studies actually had to be terminated after a very few (like 15 or so) doses had been administered. The effects of the vaccine are cumulative so that the more severe side effects show up in the later doses. The people I talked to all of whom are NVX Bulls were actually quite happy, saying that now for sure NVX's approval can't be far behind. They feel pretty darn certain that NVX will indeed have the best vaccine on the market as do I. The stock market mean while actually ignored the news. My own broker was hoping it would give some of his clients an opportunity to add to their positions but it never happen. Stay tuned, NVX's day is approaching :-}
