From what I gather now, it will cost me another $800 bucks to get a card that will allow me to get this new PC of mine rigged for 2 monitors. Basically, I think I would have to take out the nice video card I have in there to replace it with one that has 2 ports.

Only if you have no spare AGP or PCI slots. If you currently have an AGP card and you have an empty PCI slot you can buy a cheapie PCI video card, drop it in, install the drivers, tell windows to extend your desktop, and voila!

Caveat: I haven't done this myself. I have a 19" hi-res monitor so I haven't really needed more screen real estate.
