NTT must be really sweating. Writing off half billion $ chunks in PHS which is dropping quickly. Meanwhile, cdmaOne is growing and they know it will gather steam quickly. How long will they support VW40? They'll look at the royalties they'll have to pay Q! compare them with GSM royalties and decide that it is a real-deal ready-made no need to spend billions trying to reinvent the wheel when they couldn't do as good a job as Qualcomm anyway so let's get on with the job, define WWeb and roll it out fast.

Nice to see the CDG is taking the thread's advice to forget the ITU and have their own standards process. That saves a whole layer of bureaucracy. They can ignore SETI too. My experience of standards bodies in the oil industry was that they stem from the old days of big government, bureaucracy and not much action. Big jamborees, much pontification, high costs, customer interests ignored [though a pretence of caring], devaluation of innovation - generally like wading through mud up to your knees. I bet the telecommunications process is as arduous.

Down with Standards!
