Murrey- looks like a USB play to me.

I take it that Apple is betting heavily on USB a little on firewire. Pretty nice not to have a lot of power cords and wall-warts jamming up the power strip. Also, ability to share peripherals with the Wintel neighbors.

Re: Modems- I speculate we'll be seeing more publicity for USB modems soon.

So, as you speculate, it looks to me like Apple is going to take the iMac philosophy throughout the line. It could be similar to the old days when Apples had SCSI built in and printers were "just plug 'em in" while IBM clones were a chore. I expect you are extending an opinion that there is some risk, and I agree. Many people want to keep their old peripherals. On the other hand, the peripherals mfg.'s have got to be enjoying it.
