Sam,

My understanding is that 53k is all that is possible with the current restrictions on power allowable on phone lines, however as soon as the FCC oks the power limit rise which is pretty much in the bag, I have heard of no complaints, even from the phone co.s who could be the only one the FCC would consider a complaint from anyway! With the increase in power 53k will be easily obtained on all but the worst lines, and 56k on most! Granted all things left like they are now the average rural user should not expect consistent connection of more than 48K which would still be quite an increase! But with the power increase if you don't hear crackling in the background of normal phone conversations now, you should be at 53k and 56k consistently! There was a site based in the UK early on which had the ability to test the quality of your lines, maybe someone still has the URL and can post it for you! I checked mine and along with multitudes of data I didn't really understand it gave my connections a clean bill of health!

Happy Trading

Stan
