Walter,

Your post states: <<I have been to the Lucent web page and read all that I care to on PAC. As I mentioned before, EDIG's "technology" is not PAC dependent. EDIG does not need Lucent's permission to use its "embedded technology" on a player that does not utilize PAC.>>

In your sentence mentioning "embedded technology", to which company are you referring that owns the "embedded technology".

Lucent owns PAC and will license it to many end users. Edig will cross license what it does to Lucent and its customers. Edig is free to pursue other compression algorithims, but I can see little reason to do such.

How much Lucent is going to charge companies for their technology will also determine whose compression technology will prevail. Their size strongly suggests they have the best chance of prevailing. AT&T, IBM, and others also have their technologies as well and are in Lucent's class. MP3 and Kobe may look good and actually work well but they do not have strong technology companies pushing the envelope.

The company which brings out the best player at the most competitive price with universal access will win. It appears that Lucent and Intel both believe Edig is capable of this.

Much more will unfold in this industry over the next 2-3 months.
