ATTENTION ALL! bobby beara is correct, the rules do not specifically state close to close.

The rules suggest that the index would be the number that would be judged, and the "why" is, in fact, open to interpretation, just as beara suggests...this is why Auric wanted several judges.

The idea here is not to simply accept someone's guess as to the reason why, but to look at all potential contributing factors and find the post that best fits the reason why these five stocks went down.

Yes, that is a subjective call. It is possible that there will never be any complete agreement on exactly why it happened, that's the way things go.

Mr. Goldfinger put the money up at the start of the contest, and someone will win the cash.

For me personally, I would add weight to an entry that called the timing closer as part of the "why"; that would add weight to the entry, but I won't discount a post that made a good why just because it didn't call the timing.

We are working on it. Be calm. That is all.
