There's management and then there's leadership. Most managers can't keep a dedicated work crew together year after year in the face of all sorts of stress. Very few executives have the personal power to attract the calibre of men and women who serve as Energy's board of directors. Even fewer have the world vision of the Ovshinskys. Fewer still have the heart, the caring.

Thomas Jefferson died broke. Was he a poor manager? The country he helped invent is worth trillions and trillions of dollars. We're lucky to be shareholders in it. ECD is not going broke, and there's a good chance that those of us who hold it will see it redound for the benefit of our families for generations.

....And there is a decent chance that other technologies will supercede ours.

But there is no mistaking Stan for a manager. He's someone who hasn't bought the notion that the world is finished with heroes. I just hope that (and, I know people will think I'm nutty for putting it this way, but the principle may have relevance) his karma will not be like Moses', that he will get to be at the crossover with the people that have believed in him and his team.
