Bad photos aside ...

I just finished reading the annual report and its great. They did a great job of outlining their vision, strategy and markets. The report also explained in detail how they are leveraging their expertise in the BIOS market to gain strategic positions in the information appliances and peripheral interconnect markets. They are the premier supplier in these 2 burgeoning markets. The information appliances market is estimated to grow at 75% per year and the peripheral interconnect market is estimated to grow at 100% per year. The report also down played Phoenix's position in the self-diagnostics market. This a wise move seeing what happened to SS when they tried to reposition themself. Although I have always understood the Phoenix's business, I now have a greater appreciation for the company's overall vision and execution.

Here are a couple of interesting tidbits from the annual report. On page 5, Phoenix BIOS shipped on 20 million PCs in 1996 which is 25% share of the 75 million PC's sold in 1996. Their marketshare will grow to 40% in 1997 with the addition of Intel's motherboard business. On page 3, Phoenix is going to provide the BIOS for Dell's next generation computers, HP's next generation of handheld computers, and Motorola's information appliances. Looks like 1997 will be a great year for Phoenix.

For those of you who read the annual report, I would be very interested to hear your comments. Is anyone going to the annual meeting?

Steven
