I agree, this movement appears to be different from the typical pre-announcement moves that we have such a love/hate relationship with.

I am sceptical that the HP/RSA/Wave announcement earlier this week could have stimulated this sustained interest.

I think the possibilities are:
1. that this is more like the move about a month before the SMSC announcement, so presaging a major/novel announcement or player on the scene
2. Investors are concluding that the Intel/RSA/Compaq announcements are at worst neutral to Wave's business concept, and more likely good news since Wave may yet be involved at a later stage.
3. Investors are coming around to the concept of "trusted clients"/security issues as the next wave in e-commerce and are searching out stocks set to benefit in this wave. Intel's talk this week would have stimulated awareness, and wave is benefiting from this heightened awareness.
