From Barrons 1/25/99:
"Because the battery industry is so secretive, it's difficult to call the race. However, it's increasingly clear that America's three pure plays -- Valence Technology, Ultralife Batteries and Lithium Technology, all publicly traded -- probably won't be among them. A fourth company, High Energy Technologies, or HET, has a shot. But its fate depends on the willingness of its new parent to continue pouring money into research and development. HET was private until July, when Thomas & Betts, an old-line Memphis maker of electrical and electronic components, purchased it. Betts, which has $2.5 billion in annual revenues, is listed on the New York Stock Exchange." (Bold-face type supplied)
(Ed. note - It was "increasingly clear" at least as far back as last June.) |
