Microsoft sells its jillionth package of software and the revenues are virtually pure profit. Monopoly or not, that is the nature of the software industry. Almost all the costs are sunk in the development of the product. There are virtually no unit manufacturing costs. I contend that these margins are NOT the result of a formidable franchise, but are a result of the very nature of the software industry.
