Re 'Project this trend'

Project this trend for another 25 years and we'll have 2,000GB "nanomachine"
drives costing ~$5. That's enough capacity to store 15,000 MP3 albums plus
several hundred thousand multi-megapixel photos. It's hard to imagine having a need
for a second memory card when you still have enough unused storage for another
dozen lifetimes!

I think you forgot to project the trend for things that increase storage requirements at the same time. No doubt, in 25 years time, just one picture on your 100 megabyte digital camera with 128-bit colour wouldnt fit on the largest CF card you could buy today. Remember that 386 witha 20Mb drive you did all your work on 5 years ago? You probably couldn't install even Word help in 20Mb these days.
