i read arthur's HBR article a few months ago and agree that it is excellent. the striking point in this article is the idea of a bifurcation splitting knowledge-based industries and resource-based industries in increasing returns and diminishing returns camps. they can coexist but the economics are radically different. we have seen enough examples to demonstrate this notion.
