The technology already exists to deny ad revenues to Internet companies like Yahoo. If advertisers start realizing that there is a lot of opposition to banner ads and other advertising on Web pages, they will be less to inclined to pay companies like Yahoo to tout their wares.

Packages exist for Windows (see winsite.com ) and Mac (see falken.net ) that block those ads, denying revenue to the Internet companies who receive a certain amount of money each time the ad is shown. These software programs prevent your Web browser from retrieving ads.

For example, I use WebFree on my Mac. It can be easily customized using the standard Unix "grep" syntax for regular expression parsing. I can surf Yahoo's pages, without seeing any ads, simply by adding the following filter:
<OPTION-R> http ://us\.yimg\.com/a/
(I had to add the space after the http so that SI wouldn't treat it as a link.)
