Digital Me (more)

I'm not suggesting Novell provide the financial aspects of such a set-up as I proposed. Instead Novell partners with Mastercard/Visa or AMEX. Novell's piece of the puzzle is the software locus for the internet transactions.

Novell facilitates transactions with its software.

Frankly I'm somewhat surprised at your comment that Novell is not perceived as a good place to store your digital valuables. Do you think the various web sites that you go to and pay for things at are reliable? Ever thought of what they do with and who gets access to the information? When I call any of my financial institutions the first thing they ask for is an SS #. (and they are running out of security questions to ask!)

Believe me, if you are online now within a very few years everything will be known about you to someone. People will have enough information from all these transactions to take your identity (and your money) away from you.

That is why some company like Novell with a superior and secure directory is needed to establish a digital identity and a repository vault for that identity. Establishing a secure digital identity is quite different from Novell becoming a bank. It is also quite different from an ISP using NDS to verify its clients at login, although it supplements that approach.

This is an idea worth thinking about at Novell. IT gets them into the consumer business by providing a service to consumers which requires much plumbing from Novell's financial partners. IT puts all of these customers into Novell's vest pocket --- just the way portals do --- at very little cost to Novell.

=====================

Is anybody at Novell listening???
