We were all set to pull the trigger on some NN, when I noticed a press release on the ericsson thread touting a huge ATM win at British Telecom. I called a couple of sell side analysts who had no info, got a message back friday from one who had talked to ericsson. Apparently, BT is implementing a new architecture linking the AXE co switch with ericsson's relatively unknown ATM edge switch for the full range of IP, data and voice services. A check of BT's web site reveals a corroborating press release, with an interesting twist - Ericsson is the edge switch choice and the overall integrator, but there is a non-specific reference to coordinating other vendors. Now we know BT has NN ATM gear and a Cisco frame relay network. Other than opportunity cost for the next generation edge network, has NN lost any ground with this customer? It appears as though there is a chance they may continue to grow the core network on the NN platform, the analyst who called me back conjectured as much. In any case, I don't think this info has been widely disseminated, when it becomes generally known, NN will take a short term hit whether it deserves it or not. Info anyone? |
