lenn, I believe Bezos can collect substantial revenues by being the processor for any
retailer that would prefer to sell their wears and use his brand name.
I also think its possible that if he really does become the "Giant Internet e-tailer". He
could eventually charge every one of his customers an annual membership fee.

James,

I doubt any major player would wish to pay AMZN to help sell their products. AMZN has a smaller reach than many portals and the traditional retailers are quite experienced in marketing. It is not in their interests in sharing their gross margins with AMZN. AMZN has very little to "bring to the table."

As you know Costco does that now by appearing to have the very best deals for their
customers. To such an extent that every individual and corporate customer @ Costco
wouldn't consider shopping anywhere esle, unless there's not a Costco warehouse that's
not convenient.

Costco is retailing product they inventory so they are not sharing their margins.

Costco is going full steam to open up its web-site. If I had been Bezos I would have tried
to sigh Costco up. After all they're both based in Seattle. He could have just walked
across the street to sign the deal.
It will be interesting to see if he can sign up a major retailer.

Bezos may of contacted Costco and was turned down. If I were Costco, that is what I would do. Turn him down and do their own page. Costco clearly knows how to retail so why pay an amateuer such as Bezos to do it?
