BWAC:

Either our theory is correct or most of the new accounts being added are 1,000 to 2,000 dollar accounts which are bringing the average down. It does seem like everyone I know that is on the internet is opening an account with an online brokerage, and many of them are doing so with small account balances.

Personally, i think both are a factor but I am convinced they are losing quality accounts. I firmly believe that if any online broker could establish themselves as a quality unit in all cases, even if fees where at say 30.00 per trade, they would win out over time at least in terms of getting the account that generate most of their revenue.
