Valentine, advertising is so critical to the customers of Netscape and the other vendors of server software that you can be sure that they will change the product if necessary to keep the customers (i.e., advertisers) happy.

This reminds me of something 20 years ago, when I heard about a circuit you could add to your FM receiver that would detect an advertisement and mute the output until the ad was over. I think it tried to detect whether the programming was mono instead of stereo, or something. I've never heard of it since. I can imagine that the radio stations could defeat it simply by altering the signal so that the R and L channels weren't exactly the same. Probably something equally easy could be done to defeat these schemes to turn off web advertisements.

So no, I don't think I would play the internet stocks, based on this.

But it sure is tempting to try the ad-busting product, isn't it?

BTW, I find it ironic that the site that provides the product,
winsite.com, has lots of advertising itself.
