I don't worship. I admire and love real people, mostly dead. King, Gandhi, Jefferson, Lincoln, Washington, Franklin, Marcus, FDR, Eleanor, Michelangelo, Einstein, Churchill, Nehru, Alexander, Lee, Keynes, my Father, Gautama, Bach, Schweitzer, Mother Theresa, Jesus, David, ---people who lived and died for courage, honour, truth, love, and mercy. Some did rotten things, but that was only part of their llives. I can't tote up a net balance. Not my job. I have to teach what they taught. I like your characterization of the intense vibes coming from someone at that time and place. No one could imagine Jesus, and though the tales we have are diverse, I think they describe one underlying reality. I wish that I could love strangers as much as he learned to love them. I wish I could heal the sick and raise the dead. Or some one could. The impact of these few and other people on the world can change it into a place worth living in. I can't believe it takes an ineffable God to do so. |
