Bill, what is your purpose for the machine?

If you just want to buy, plug in, and surf- this is a fair deal. See if you can still get the free additional 32MB of RAM.

If you want to compare specs:
====================
gateway.com

G6-366C
Intel® Celeron™ processor 366MHz w/ 128K Cache
32MB SDRAM Expandable to 256MB
EV500 15" color monitor (13.9" viewable area)
Integrated AGP 3-D 4MB Graphics
3.2GB Ultra ATA Hard Drive
13X min./32X max. CD-ROM drive & 3.5"
Diskette Drive Woo Hoo!
Integrated Sound Blaster AudioPCI 64V GCS100 speakers by Altec Lansing®
Telepath® 56K Internet/Fax Modem
Micro-Tower Case, Multi-function Keyboard, Mouse & Gateway Mouse Pad
Microsoft Windows 98 & Microsoft Home
Essentials 98 and Quicken Basic 99, McAfee Anti-Virus Software
Gateway GoldSM Service for PCs
$999 or as low as $28 per month*
============================

Now, what is the value of not fighting with Windows? What is a couple of weekends worth to you?

I like Clarisworks. It does everything I need at home. I like Nanosaur. Hint- Jump on a flying dino to load up the weapons arsenal and jet fuel- then go psycho on the reptiles.

It all depends on what you want to do. If you want to do very graphically intense games, the new units are better. Why go in to specs unless we know what your objectives are?

P.S.- the "steal" is the Gateway G6-400SE, but you still gotta "pay" for WIndows-- I say add $250 or more in irritation.
