I also subscribe to Zacks and Applix was given the strong buy(1) rating just a couple of days ago, this is the highest ranking they have given them in the last year that I have been following this stock, it wasn't that long ago they were rated as a sell(4). Best I can tell is that Zacks puts alot of weight on earnings surprise and analyst estimates. These rating change frequently, for instance next week it could be a hold(3).
