Musea, we seem to be of like mind on this issue. Right now, the only e-tailers that seem to make sense to me are ones like Dell, a manufacturer/assembler, and wholesaler/distributors like barnesandnoble.com (there are others, but I am most familiar with these two).

Perhaps the major threat that e-commerce will pose will be towards existing wholesalers rather than large retailers (although I am convinced that traditional retailers are the more vulnerable of the two). People will always need to buy things at a store that stocks goods. Of two thing I am certain -- e-commerce will exact major changes in marketing channels, and the retailers best positioned to take advantage of this will need to be as far upstream as possible.
