>> Costco clearly knows how to retail so why pay an amateuer such as Bezos to do it?<< Glenn, my point is, that Bezos has never told us he's a retailer. He comes over to me as a middle-man, transaction processor, that's building one hell of a data-base that he'll sell to anyone if they pay him, his price. Ps Happy Sunday.
James,
Happy Sunday to you too:-)
The problem is that Bezos's database pales in comparison to that of Sears, Walmart, Cosko, JC Penney and many others. Last time I checked, Sears had 31 million active charge accounts. Not cummulative. By the way, a Sears charge account is not active if not used for two years. The Sears database is more thorough than that of Amazons. Sears knows where you are employed, how much one makes, how well they pay their bills, how much they spend, what they like to buy, where they like to buy it, how often one buys, what time of year they buy, etc. I used Sears as an example. Cosko, Walmart though Sam's Club, JC Penney and many others obtain the same information. The ultimate database is likely Visa's and/or Mastercard. There is American Express too. I really doubt that a major retailer would want to pay Bezos for a database that is far inferior to that of the existing retailer.
What about the database YHOO, XCIT, etc are developing?
I still believe AMZN to be a scheme to make money for the insiders. Nothing more and nothing less. This is my opinion and I expect to prove it.
