I totally agree drbes. This last qutr was indeed disappointing, but I also feel this disappointment was fueled by a few overzealous analysts who built up an atmosphere where anything less than a positive surprise would be tragic. For almost the entire month of dec. and the first week of jan., the first call number was .15 only to bump up to .19 thanks to a few revisions from ridiculously low single digits to "guesses" of .21, .22 ,etc (e.g. kumar- then again, he couldn't risk pissin the sec off again by nailing the number). Sure, some word from sunnyvale would have been helpful, but aside from a greenspan-like irrational exuberance speech, there wasn't much amd could have done. It wasn't bad considering the last five qrtrs and selling 5.5 mil cpus is impressive. A lot rides on their ability to get these k6-3s out quick. There is no doubt intc has gotten off the ropes and is in the process of mounting a powerful counterattack. This should be fun.
